My mission is for all Australians to plan for life after retirement as actively as they did to build their education, families, careers or homes. I want the steps of going through a process like my Ageing Well Compass to be normalised. A simple and proactive roadmap for the future.
Early in my career, whilst working in Funds Management I was asked to do some research on the ageing population of Australia, in order to create the right financial products for the older demographic. There were a growing number of retirees, retired for decades, others who were in early stages of retirement still with ageing parents to support, and many with adult children still at home. Lives were getting longer, but plans on how to navigate them was new territory.
Though there have been some changes, society in general, organisations and government policy and services, have yet to catch up with the changing needs that come with living longer...
Fifteen years later having worked in other industries, most recently as a change manager, it struck me that just as organisations must adapt to changing environments to survive and stay strong, so do individuals when facing transitions that come with growing older. After gaining change management qualifications and a chance to shift careers I enrolled in my Masters of Ageing and spent 3 years meeting as many people as I could, and attending many workshops and events in the ‘aged care sector’.
Whilst working part-time in my husband’s financial services practice, it became apparent that there was nowhere older Australians could go for a holistic plan for retirement. Whilst there are many financial, medical, legal, government, and private services, there is no one place to start, where you can begin to make plans for all aspects of later life.
In 2019 I felt compelled to change this and created Ageing Well Sorted. A service where clients can come in and just say, “I need help but I don’t know where to start”. We can provide great starter information and point clients in the right direction. We can also match clients to the right services that meet their needs today, and help implement plans for tomorrow.’ I chose the term ‘Sorted’ because it is proactive. We all know what we should do but we get you doing it, getting you sorted to age well.
It’s likely your children have grown up. Perhaps you’re a grandparent. Maybe you’re long retired, or recently retired or it is just around the corner for you. You might even be an adult looking to help your parents get set up for their later years. Regardless, now is the best time to start planning for the future.
Some of our clients have started planning in some areas, others haven’t a clue where to begin. Whatever stage of the planning process you’re in, Ageing Well Sorted is able to work with you to formulate a plan and make positive steps to get your affairs in order. Our goal is to figure out where you're at in life and work forward from there.
You’ve worked hard to earn the life you have – now is the time to enjoy it! But, to truly enjoy the life you’ve built, it’s essential to have plans taken care of for whatever the future may bring.
This eases the stress off you, as well as your spouse, children, and other family members. Knowing there is a set plan ahead for both good times and bad means you don’t need to stress over them now. It removes the doubt and uncertainty that can arise later in life and provides you and your family with the confidence and peace of mind to know there’s a plan and things are taken care of.
